Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how Birdero ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use our mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service").
By using our Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
We collect information in a few different ways to provide and improve our Service to you.
- Account Information: When you create an account, we collect information such as your name, username, email address, password, and country.
- Profile Information: You may choose to provide additional information for your profile, such as a biography, profile picture, and cover photo.
- User Content: We collect the content you create and share on the Service. This includes photos and videos you upload, text from your posts and comments, and the metadata associated with your sightings, such as bird species, location (latitude and longitude), and the date and time of the observation.
- Communications: If you contact us directly for support, we may receive additional information about you, such as your name, email address, and the contents of your message.
- Usage and Analytics Data: We automatically collect anonymized information about how you interact with our Service. This includes which features you use, how often you open the app, and crash reports. This data helps us understand how our app is performing and how we can improve it. This information is aggregated and does not personally identify you.
- Device Information: We may collect basic information about your device, such as its operating system and model, to help us diagnose and fix technical issues.
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- To Provide and Maintain the Service: To operate our app, authenticate you, and display your content and profile.
- To Improve the Service: To understand our user base, analyze trends, fix bugs, and develop new features.
- To Communicate With You: To send you important updates, security alerts, or respond to your support requests.
- For Safety and Security: To protect our community by finding and preventing fraud and moderating content that violates our Terms of Service (e.g., handling blocked users).To
- Power Social Features: To enable features like following, groups, challenges, and leaderboards.
We do not sell your personal data. We may share your information in the following limited circumstances:
- Publicly on the Service: Your profile information (username, profile picture, etc.) and any content you post publicly (like sightings, posts, and comments) are visible to other users of the Service.
- With Scientific Research Partners (With Your Consent): If you opt-in through the "Birdero & Science" settings, we will share your public sighting data with research partners like the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF). To protect your privacy, we only share generalized locations for sensitive species and do not share exact coordinates from private locations. You can opt-out of this at any time.
- For Legal Reasons: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities.
We take reasonable measures to help protect your information from loss, theft, misuse, and unauthorized access. However, no electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
If you are a resident of the European Economic Area (EEA), you have certain data protection rights. We aim to take reasonable steps to allow you to correct, amend, delete, or limit the use of your Personal Data.
- You can access and update most of your profile information through the app's settings.
- You have the right to delete your account and all associated data at any time through the app's settings. This action is permanent and irreversible.
Our Service is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If you become aware that a child has provided us with Personal Data, please contact us.
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
